Dr Hayder Al-Shamaa is an NHS and private General Practitioner practicing in East Sussex since 2006. He qualified from Baghdad University in 1995 and obtained Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners in 2006 through Vocational GP Training in Eastbourne and Hastings. He has since trained multiple other new GPs as part of the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Deanery. He has worked as an NHS GP Partner in Bexhill from April 2006 until December 2024. He holds a diploma in Children’s Health (DCH) from the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health and a Post Graduate Certificate in dementia diagnosis and management with which he has been a part of the local Memory Assessment Service in East Sussex since 2014. 

He has held lead positions in Respiratory and Palliative Care, as well as being named Adult and Children Safeguarding Lead in his previous practice at Little Common/Bexhill. Areas of specialty for him include Chronic Disease Management, Respiratory Medicine, Children and Adolescent Health and Mental Health Care. He is a GP with Special Interest (GPwSI) in dementia care. He values excellent rapport with his patients and believes in caring for each patient as an individual, tailoring their management to their needs. He believes medical care should be holistic and sustainable, aiming for better lifelong health for his patients. 

Dr Al-Shamaa lives in Bexhill with his wife, with both children having flown the nest to study finance and medicine. In his free time, you might spot him at David Lloyd Eastbourne, as he enjoys running, table tennis and squash as part of keeping fit. He loves spending time away with his family exploring new countries, and loves watching Manchester United play the beautiful game - depending on the score!
